Step by step
Open the individual WhatsApp conversation and its header menu.
Click Block contact and read the confirmation.
Confirm blocking and check the result notice.
Open Blocked numbers to check the applied mode and corresponding account number.

What you need to know
- On the official API, rejection of native blocking may result in Silenced mode: received messages are discarded when entering the system.
- The QR flow may also use this silencing if native blocking fails, for example when disconnected.
- Silenced in this list is not merely disabling a notification. Do not use this action only to stop alerts.
